CSI announced the development of Evidence and Laboratory modules, which may be integrated with the InfoShare application or utilized on a stand alone basis.
September 15th, 2000
Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and evidence modules developed by CSI Technology Group are structured for crime laboratories and police departments, yet configurable to meet a department's division of duties and storage practices.
The InfoShare Evidence module allows authorized custodians and police officers to locate cases and evidence items by many different methods. These authorized users can specify a distinct category to find the case or item they are looking for, or utilize case numbers, defendant/victim names and even crime scene location.

For the newly-developed LIMS module, CSI adopted the latest bar-code technology "PDF 417" from Symbol Technologies. PDF stands for "Portable Data File". The PDF417 feature, increases security, protects data integrity, and eliminates time and computer-access location limitations.
Integrated into Infoshare application, the LIMS module is capable of automatically generating a category-distinct bar-code for each case, each evidence container, each single item, each storage cell, and each authorized staff or police officer. With one single scan of the "PDF417" bar code, case and item information can be transferred directly to the lab's database, which provides extremely fast and secured data transfer. Infoshare LIMS module is complete with:
- Cases records (including new case-entry, case summary, assignment, evidence listing, containers, status, contacts, events, notes, reports, and chain of custody)
- System reports, management reports (including pending cases and investigation or lab assignments)
- Chain of custody info. (It records all changes in evidence custody as cases, items, and sub-items move throughout the system.)
- Bulletin board
- Manuals
- Legal site links
- Online documents
- User management
- File maintenance
- and more
Both the LIMS and Evidence modules include a calendar for all task assignments that helps custodians and police officers keep their work on the right track.
