CSI Implements Automated Application at the New Mexico Public Defender

      ALBUQUERQUE – CSI designed and recently installed an automated application feature in the New Mexico Public Defender Department Case Management System which performs an automated qualification status and generates a completed application.

       This feature permits interviewers to take information verbally from applicants and insert into a programmed template which calculates total family income and expenses and determines income qualification for services on the basis of family size. The system generates a printed version of the application with all data and the qualification determination for the applicant’s signature. The system also retains all data in a client record set in the event the applicant reapplies for service in the future.

      This feature has significantly reduced the amount of time interviewers expend on qualification calculations and eliminates the chance of errors and possible disqualification of service. The printed version of the application also provides clearly readable and consistent data for the applicant and interviewer to sign.
 

      As the Department receives 150 applications a day, this feature has improved both processing time for the staff and waiting time for the applicants. CSI is proceeding with designs for an automated fee tracking feature, which will provide receipt generation and daily fee collection reporting.
